A group of Interior Design majors toured several Dallas firms on Monday, Jan. 20, 2014. These businesses specialize in a broad range of project types: Leo A Daly, Flick-Mars, Studio 11 Design and HKS. Two firms were focused on larger corporate and healthcare design, while two others were small independent firms with a Hospitality specialization. It was amazing to learn about the scope of work and awards coming out of these two small firms! All of the firms provided the students with excellent insights into the interior design work and clientele that inspired the students about their career opportunities. The students heard from the principal designers and benefitted from the back-story and creative evolvement of a wide range of projects and client types in domestic locations and abroad. The tours exposed the students to the work environments, job skills utilized, how individual designers careers developed, marketing a firm, and the unique personalities and inner workings of the firms.
