ACU Opera presents “A Soap Opera Opera”

The ACU Department of Music invites you to join us on April 5th and 7th as the ACU Opera celebrates the “old school” media; radio and television.  Set in a TV studio Gallantry by Douglas Moore is an operatic version of that staple of the 1950’s daytime programming, the soap opera.  Menotti’s Old Maid and the Thief was written for NBC radio and was broadcast over the airwaves in 1939.  We hope you will enjoy our radio station scenario.  Come see a soap opera opera! There will be two performances in Cullen Auditorium for your convenience: Friday, April 5, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 7 at 3:30 p.m.  Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, available at the door.

ACU Undergraduate Research Festival

Town Hall Meeting

Shots fired in your building? Campus emergency, what do you do?  Are you prepared? The office of Risk Management will be partnering with the ACU Police Department to host the next Town Hall meeting on April 11th at 8:30 a.m. in the Campus Center Living Room.  A presentation on ACU Emergency Action Plans and the ACU Emergency Response Team will teach you how to handle these events on campus.

Abilene Jazz Festival

The 2013 Abilene Jazz Fest, featuring local high school and university jazz ensembles will be held at the Historic Paramount Theatre from 7-10 p.m. on Monday, April 8th.  As always, admission is free.  We are excited to offer the opportunity for you to join us in the support of  the  Elgon Youth Brass Band, comprised of homeless and at-risk children in Mbale, Uganda. Donations of used instruments, working or not, and cash contributions will be gratefully accepted.  Our thanks to N-Tunes Music & Sound for their offer to do any necessary minor repair.  Join us for a toe-tapping good time!

ACU Computer Auction

ACU will be having a surplus Computer Auction on Sat., 5/4 in Cullen Auditorium. Viewing and registration starts at 11 a.m. and the actual auction starts at 1 p.m.. There will be many computers for sale including Apple iMacs, MacBooks, MacBook Pros, and Mac Pros, Dell laptops and desktops, printers, monitors, digital projectors, server equipment, network equipment, and much more. The Hot Seat-83rd Legislative Session

You’re invited to a light lunch and discussion led by the Texas Tribune’s Evan Thomas on Friday, March 22nd at 11:30 a.m. in the Hunter Welcome Center. Thomas will interview State Sen. Troy Fraser, R-Horseshoe Bay, and State Rep. Susan King, R-Abilene, about the 83rd legislative session. Admission is free.
