University Purchasing will have a soft close in order to take advantage of a continued learning opportunity through a Business Services retreat on Friday, October 25th, Fall Break Day. This soft close means in-coming shipments will be accepted, only overnight packages will be delivered. There will be no afternoon deliveries nor 4:00 package pickups. The Purchasing office will be closed and staff will be unavailable all day. If you need assistance with p-card please contact Meredith Horn in Accounts Payable at x2774. ACU Press and its imprint, Leafwood Publishers, are giving students, faculty and staff the opportunity to design a book cover for two of their titles releasing in Fall 2014. The “Judge a Book by its Cover Contest” runs through Dec. 13 and offers a $500 grand prize to the winning design to be announced in chapel in January. See full contest details.

As we enter into the cooler seasons of the year, West Texas weather fluctuates daily. The design of our campus heating system is such, that once it is “on,” it needs to stay on during the entire heating season. Therefore, we will wait to turn on the heating system until the overnight temperatures are forecast to reach below freezing or the daytime temperatures stay continually below 64 degrees. It will take at least 24 hrs. to reach maximum operating conditions.

This process helps prevent excessive cost to the University and premature wear and tear on the boilers and piping system.  The cost to run the heating system can be anywhere from $1,000-$2,000 per day, depending on natural gas prices.

If you feel that your office or area is too cold or warm, please do not hesitate to call Facilities Management at x2665 to generate a work order.  Even though the heating/cooling system is not on, there may be steps that Facilities can take to improve your comfort level.

Due to liability and insurance reasons, the terms of the new contract restrict our ACU Enterprise account to university business only. However, Enterprise Rent Car has set up a new link for all faculty and staff personal rent car needs. When you need to rent a car for personal use, Enterprise will provide a 5% discount off all published rates. Homecoming Carnival – Make plans to attend the 2013 Homecoming Carnival on Friday from 5-8 p.m. on the northeast lawn of the Williams Performing Arts Center. Cost is $5 per wristband. Carnival food will also be available for purchase. Wristbands can be pre-purchased this week through Thursday at 5 p.m. in the Alumni Relations Office, Suite 280 of the Hunter Welcome Center.

Offices will close at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct 18th, to allow faculty and staff to attend the homecoming carnival. Please display appropriate signage at your offices to notify students and visitors in advance. Be sure to take this opportunity to interact with campus visitors as well.

Homecoming JamFest Concert and Fireworks Show – Bring a blanket or lawn chairs and enjoy student talent on the east lawn of the Hunter Welcome Center! Student bands kick off at 6:15 p.m. Enjoy a spectacular fireworks show at 8:15 p.m., followed by the JamFest headlining bands.

Homecoming Parade – Enjoy colorful floats, music and special guests in the 2013 Homecoming Parade.  Grand Marshal is Mrs. Dewby (Adams ’50) Ray. The parade is Saturday, Oct. 19 and begins at 9:30 a.m. on E.N. 16th and then on to Campus Court.

Homecoming Chapel – Engage in a time of worship on Saturday at 10:45 a.m. The guest speaker is Josh Ross (’03), pulpit minister at Sycamore View Church of Christ in Memphis.

Homecoming Football Game – Watch the ACU Wildcats take on the University of the Incarnate Word Cardinals at 2 p.m. at Shotwell Stadium.

All Faculty and Staff are invited to the annual Family Fall Event on Thursday, November 7th at 7 p.m. This year, we will gather at the historic Paramount Theater to enjoy Miracle on 34th Street, starring Richard Attenborough, Elizabeth Perkins, and Dylan McDermott.  Please RSVP here.   Additional snacks and drinks will be available for purchase in the snack bar.  We hope you to see you there!

Looking to purchase tickets for this Saturday’s Homecoming game? The Moody Ticket office, on the North Side of Moody Coliseum, will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p .m. on Wed and Thurs (10/16, 10/17) , from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fri (10/18) and from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sat (10/19).
