Human Resources will have a Medicare expert on-campus in Abilene on Tuesday, October 30th, to help assist employees with questions related to Medicare. Employees who are nearing Medicare eligibility are encouraged to attend these informational sessions to learn the differences between enrolling in ACU’s health plan and enrolling in Medicare. The informational sessions will be held from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and 1:00-2:00 p.m. in the Adams Center Classroom with Q&A afterwards. Additionally, any employee who attends the meeting will have the option of scheduling a one-on-one phone call with our Medicare expert to help answer any specific questions.
October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month, and on Wednesday Oct 24, IT will host a Cyber Security Awareness presentation in the Innovation Foundry (Library 3rd floor) from noon to 1 p.m.
Phone Call Scams: Recent reports project that half of next year’s US cellphone calls will be scams. You can protect yourself from these scammers by not answering phone calls from telephone numbers you don’t recognize. If it’s important enough the caller will leave a voicemail or text message. If they do leave a message exercise caution before proceeding with a follow up. You can also search for the number on Google and look for any spam reports associated with the number. If you can’t find any reports associated with the number and your Google search didn’t indicate that the number belongs to a local business or person. Another option many mobile devices offer is the ability to block numbers.
ACU will be having an auction of surplus, used computers and other business and electronic equipment in Cullen Auditorium on Saturday, October 27th. The computer auction will start at 1 p.m. The computer equipment will be set up and available for viewing on the day of the sale starting at 11 a.m. Bidder registration also starts at 11 a.m. on the day of the auction. International Open Access Week (October 22-26) is a global event entering its tenth year of celebration. It is an opportunity for the academic and research community to continue to learn about the potential benefits of Open Access, and to celebrate their open access accomplishments with the world. On Tuesday, October 23, stop by the Brown Library at the Scholars Lab or circulation desk to celebrate with Open Access cookies. On Thursday, October 25, all faculty are invited to attend the Adams Center session titled, “Open Access and Digital Commons.”
All benefits-eligible employees will need to complete their 2019 benefits enrollment online between November 5th and November 9th. Schedule an appointment if you would like assistance enrolling in your benefits during this week. Walk-ins are welcome as well. Come to the Brown Library, 3rd floor Computer Lab (BL301) for help from an HR or benefits vendor representative.
