An Evening with Shaun Casey

The ACU Brown Library is excited to welcome Shaun Casey (’79) back to campus at 7pm on Thursday, February 16, in the Brown Library’s Packer Forum. Shaun will discuss his new book, “Chasing the Devil at Foggy Bottom: The Future of Religion in American Diplomacy.”
Casey was Special Representative for Religion and Global Affairs at the US Department of State and Director of the Office of Religion and Global Affairs from 2013 to 2017. He has taught at Harvard Divinity School and directed the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs at Georgetown University. In this new book, Casey tells the story of peacemaking in the world as state and non-state actors came together in new ways to find a path forward.
Shaun will be in dialogue with Professors Mark Hamilton from the university’s Graduate School of Theology and Candice Ortbals-Wiser from the university’s Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice.

Scott Erickson on Campus

Scott Erickson is an artist, author, performance speaker, and creative curate who mixes autobiography, mythology, and aesthetics to create art and moments that speak to our deepest experiences. Using his passion and commitment to craft, Scott has been a working artist for over a decade and has had his work appear on CNN, National Geographic, and various magazines, newspaper outlets, and book covers. As a speaker, Scott brings his training as an educator and his experience as a visual communicator to all of his presentations. His goal is to bring something for his “A.D.D. brothers and sisters out there,”… making sure every speech is thoughtful, entertaining, wondrous, and filled with visual elements and live creating. His current show, “Say Yes: A Liturgy of Not Giving Up On Yourself,” juxtaposes story-teaching, participation, humor, and image curation as Scott walks us through the very personal and universal conversation about the death of a dream and the overwhelming voice of Giving Up in our lives.

Significant Black Influences In Our Lives

This year, we would like to highlight significant Black influences on our professional work and elevate these individuals in a session on February 21st. We hope you will participate! Who is a Black individual who has been a significant influence in your professional life? This person can be well known, but could also be a person you simply know personally. They could be a professional specifically in your field, but might also be a person who guided, taught, or influenced you in your work/career. Think of mentors, professors, peers, colleagues, friends, and leaders who have made or continue to make an impact on who you are as a professor and as a person. Add this person to this slide presentation that we will use in our February session. Thanks for participating! This session will take place in the Reading Commons in the Library from 11:30-12:15 and is open to all faculty, staff, and students.

Zoom Phone

ACU has begun transitioning the campus telephone system to Zoom Phone. By the end of June 2023, all departments will be migrated off the old telephone system onto Zoom Phone. Over the course of the next several months, ACU IT will be coordinating with individual departments to facilitate this transition. To learn more about Zoom Phone, check out this support article.

Great Songs Chapel

Staff and faculty are invited to the “Great Songs Chapel” which meets on most Tuesdays from 11:00-11:30. We sing familiar Christian hymns and learn new ones. No musical experience is required. For locations and times and to receive a calendar invite, email Monty Lynn at monty.lynn@acu.edu.
