Dear Friends,
What a blessing it is to be a small part of ACU and the ACU community. It’s an honor to come to work everyday at such a great university and to be able to work with people you not only love, but for whom I also have such tremendous respect.
My family and i want to thank each of you for your outpouring of concern, compassion and love over the last two years as we dealt with our son Rex’s journey with cancer and, ultimately, his passing.
As some of you might know, Rex passed away late on the evening of Nov. 25, 2012, just five weeks after celebrating his 10th birthday. He died at home on a Sunday night very peacefully, surrounded by his family, just the way he wanted to slip from this life to the next.
We know that after he took his last breath here on earth, he was greeted in heaven by Jesus and that he is now healed to a degree that we cannot comprehend. As I wrote on his CaringBridge site, I will never say that Rex lost to cancer. Rex was afflicted with cancer, but it never touched his heart, it never touched his mind, and it never touched his soul. Those have always belonged to God; they never belonged to cancer.
We miss Rex tremendously, and I know we will for the rest of our lives. But we have been held up by our loving family, by a tremendously supportive group of close friends, our community, our church, and by our tremendously supportive ACU family. And we know we will see him again one day, and that we will never again be separated from him. That’s the thought that helps us get through each day.
We have been overwhelmed by the generosity that the ACU Family has shown us in so many ways. We have been blessed by your calls, emails, texts, facebook messages, cards, letters, hugs, etc. We will never be able to repay you for those acts of kindness.
So, from Jill, Ashley, Ryan (and even Rex, who loved the Wildcats), we say thank you and we love you.
Lance Fleming, Assistant Director of Athletics for Media Relations

It is that time of year again when you are invited to nominate students for December 2012 Honor Awards. Go to the Honor Awards website to view a list of eligible graduating seniors included in a drop down menu on the webpage. Click on the down arrow to see the list of graduating seniors. Names will be added to the list as students complete their intent to graduate information with the Registrar’s Office. If you wish to nominate a student that is not listed send an email to Tina Fleet with your nomination and their eligibility will be verified. Nominations should at least be a full paragraph describing the student’s personal attributes or contributions that correspond to the award nomination. Your input will assist the Student Life Committee in making appropriate decisions with respect to the final recipients for Honor Man or Honor Woman, Trustees Award, B Sherrod Scholarship, or Dean Adams Achievement.
Please submit your nominations for December 2012 Honor Awards by 5 pm, Friday, November 30.
Dr. Houston Heflin, Assistant Professor in the College of Biblical Studies, has just released a new book through ACU Press, “Teaching Eutychus: Engaging Today’s Learners with Passion and Creativity.” This book celebrates the hard work of volunteers who give
their time and invest their energy to teach in churches. Each short chapter is full of creative ideas and coaching tips to create more engaging lessons. The book is currently available in The Campus Store, Amazon and www.acupressbooks.com
Each year during Staff Pre-Session, we take the opportunity to present awards to two outstanding staff members. The Senior Leadership Team will select the honorees based on nominations they receive from employees. Please take time to nominate a member of the staff for this honor by filling out a nomination form. Be sure to provide examples from your own observations and experiences with the nominee that describe why this particular staff member is outstanding. The deadline to submit nominations is July 2 at 5 p.m.
Please note: These awards are for staff employees only; faculty members are honored in each college.
