The $50 million Partnering in the Journey Campaign for endowed student scholarships topped $25 million this summer, thanks in part to the estate of Virginia Heacock. Virginia, a longtime ExxonMobil employee, never went to college or even set foot on the ACU campus, but in 1995 she established an endowment at ACU for student scholarships, to which her estate transferred more than $4 million upon her death in May. The $25 million in new endowment equates to roughly an additional $1 million annually for student scholarships.

Congratulations to ACU’s Advancement Division, which received a 2013 CASE Educational Fundraising Award for Best Performance. The award was given by judges based on an institution-blind analysis of three years of data provided by ACU. Of 412 institutions nationwide to submit data, only 35 received an award like this one, and ACU was one of just five recognized in the “Private Comprehensive Institutions” division, alongside schools like Gonzaga University and Rochester Institute of Technology. ACU last won this award in 2004.

Each year during Pre-Session, we take the opportunity to present awards to two outstanding staff members. The Senior Leadership Team will select the honorees based on nominations they receive from the campus. Please take time to nominate a member of the staff for this honor. The deadline to submit nominations is Wednesday, August 7 at 5 p.m.

Students from ACU’s Department of Engineering and Physics are involved in research this summer that could change the way we look at the world. They’re taking advantage of world-class internships at places like the Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island, New York, and at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory outside Chicago. Cohn Drennan Contemporary, a Dallas art gallery owned and operated by ACU alumnus Cohn Drennan, is featuring an exhibition of ACU student work through June 22 in its Gallery A. The exhibition, entitled SAID, is the second such exhibition to feature the work of university students

In 2012, HR  Frontline answered 7,023 incoming calls and  processed 9,644 Personnel Action Forms (PAF’s). As you can see, these student employees are hard at work for you!

All ACU employees are welcome to attend the annual luncheon honoring this year’s winners of the Outstanding Alumnus and Young Alumnus of the Year awards to be held on Feb. 17 at 12:30 p.m. Cmdr. David Bynum (’84), a U.S. Navy chaplain, and Dr. Marcus Nelson (’94), superintendent of the Laredo Independent School District, will be honored. Purchase tickets here.
