SSSA Conference SiteTravel is the key word again at the Pruett Gerontology Center. Dr. Pruett will be presenting a conference session today at the Southwestern Social Science Association 2014 annual meeting in San Antonio. Founded in 1919, SSSA  is the oldest interdisciplinary social science association in the United States, and is composed of professionals and students in the social sciences, including academics and other professionals. The SSSA conference regularly draws about 1,000 social scientists from across the country and the world. Attendees represent practically every state as well as at least a dozen different countries. The SSSA also publishes the Social Science Quarterly.

Dr. Pruett will present “Clergy, Retirement, and Social Security: Does Opting Out Make a Difference in Retirement Preparation” today. Dr. Pruett’s co-presenters are Dr. Alan Lipps of the ACU Social Work department and James Knapp of Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

In a prestigious honor for our Gerontology Center, Laura Baxter, Senior Communications Disorders major with certification emphasis in Gerontology, will present “Evaluating Knowledge of Aging and Identifying Age-Biases of Undergraduate Communication Sciences & Disorders Students at a Private Southwestern University” during the sessions on Friday. Laura joins a small and select group of students who present at large conferences and represent the Pruett Gerontology Center and Abilene Christian University.
