Driving during the holidays can present many challenges. Since it is colder outside, roads and icy conditions will make it harder to drive to see your loved ones during Christmas.

During the holiday season, it is important to:

  • Take your car into the shop to make sure everything is working correctly.
  • If it is raining or snowing, make sure to be extra cautious when driving, exiting, or changing lanes.
  • Do not use cruise control when driving on slippery surfaces.
  • Be on the lookout for black ice. This will cause you to possibly spin or not stop if you are not careful.
  • It never hurts to drive slow and cautiously. Driving slow can prevent accidents, but don’t drive too slow because it can also cause issues.
  • Supply the car with ice scrapers for your windshield, water, snacks, and blankets.
  • Make sure to have enough gas. It never hurts to stop again after using half a tank.
  • Check the weather before leaving to make sure it is safe to drive on the road or if winter storms are approaching.
  • Continue to check tire pressures, gas meter, and weather throughout your drive. This will ensure safety on the road for not only you, but for the people around you as well.
  • Do not drive when tired.
