As we age, our immune system begins to not function as well compared to our younger years. As a result, our immune system does not respond as well, and we become sick faster and easier.
Changes that can occur include:
- Vaccines may not work as well
- Slow body healing
- An increased risk of cancer due to the immune system not being able to detect unhealthy cells as efficiently
- An autoimmune disorder develops
To reduce risks, it is encouraged to:
- Exercise regularly
- Eat healthy
- Receive vaccines annually (flu vaccine, )
- Avoid being around the sick
- Stop smoking
- Wash hands regularly
- Sterilize public items (grocery carts, door handles)
