As we age, our immune system begins to not function as well compared to our younger years. As a result, our immune system does not respond as well, and we become sick faster and easier.

Changes that can occur include:

  • Vaccines may not work as well
  • Slow body healing
  • An increased risk of cancer due to the immune system not being able to detect unhealthy cells as efficiently
  • An autoimmune disorder develops

To reduce risks, it is encouraged to:

  • Exercise regularly
  • Eat healthy
  • Receive vaccines annually (flu vaccine, )
  • Avoid being around the sick
  • Stop smoking
  • Wash hands regularly
  • Sterilize public items (grocery carts, door handles)
