Exercise ideas

More project inspiration—for the rest of life! :)

Exercise 04: (dis)Connected

Well, at least you can’t say that I didn’t give you enough creative ideas… :)

This one is very simple: I am calling it (dis)Connected. Just take somewhat random photos, keeping in mind lines and edges which you can connect with other photos (3, 4, 6…). For now, I’ve only tried architectural details, but I do want to try other objects, etc. Look at the example below, and you’ll get the idea!

Exercise 03: Out-Of-Focus

Project idea 3: deliberately take OUT-OF-FOCUS pictures. Explore the relations between forms and non-perceptible details. Subject-matter could vary from portrait, landscape, object… or simply “light” effects such as traffic-light, and so on. The only criteria is to switch your camera to manual focus, and make sure what you photograph is completely “out-of-focus”!

Exercise 02: The Objet Quotidien

Many objects are found, and present in our daily lives. At times, they seem to be located at the periphery of our activities and we don’t quite give them the right attention, yet they become very important when we need them. Find mundane, ordinary object and transform them into an object of appreciation (its form, etc.). Take at least 50 different pictures of same object, exploring its physical and material properties as well as aesthetic qualities.

Exercise 01: Exposure – aperture/shutter speed

Exercise objectives are: practicing correct light reading/right exposure, and focus.
Also, this exercise is an opportunity for you to understand how depth of field and shutter speed work.

Once you have determined the correct light reading, you need the following images:

SHUTTER SPEED

2 shots of any (same) moving element (people, vehicles, bicycles, objects, etc.)

shot 1: slow shutter speed
shot 2: fast shutter speed

DEPTH OF FIELD

2 shots of same subject matter
(for better visualization pictures must be taken within at least 3 different f-stops)

shot 1: short d-o-f
shot 2: long d-o-f
