Knowing there is a God

Carl Jung has many ideas related to religion and its role in individuality. I really enjoyed what Carl Jung said in his video about if you believe in a God, or in God, you then know that there is a God. Because, once you believe something it becomes your reality and truth. Therefore once something is a belief of yours, it is something you know, it is a fact according to Carl Jung. I would have to classify this as a part of the new creation. It is almost like living in your own new reality, once you have become a Christian and you have embraced that lifestyle.

One reason I would classify this as a new creation is that once you have a belief or know something, it cannot be unproven or taken away from you. This is similar to the new creation, that we are living in as Christians as well.

I liked what you said about this! His concepts make me wonder how we ever know what reality is, though. It’s almost like the new age stuff that is becoming popular in the world these days – how all roads lead to god or whatever you want to believe becomes your truth

Laura Kate- I liked the comment from the video too. It is interesting how your beliefs become your reality, whether one acknowledges that or not. Your classification of Jung’s ideas about God do fit new creation well.

I am glad that you could understand him in the video because I could not (lol), that being said, I really liked your post. When we think about reality, it is interesting to hear what kind of different conclusions folks can come to.

I really liked your post. As I grew up I was always heard Jung’s comment in the video. It is very interesting to know everyones thoughts on how they feel about different things either believing in God or Christianity in general.

Laura (Mary) Kate, this is really good. I like how you appreciated his views that when we believe in something, whether it is God or not, it becomes our new creation and our new reality.

I really like what you said about “once you believe something, that becomes your reality.” I have experienced this in my own life and seen it be true in the lives of my friends. When someone believes something, whether it was originally true or not, it eventually becomes the reality that the person lives in. Social psychology explains it is as self-fulfilling prophesy, where people behave out of their beliefs and others then respond according the behavior fulfilling the original belief. I have seen people who believed that they were rejected no matter how many people loved or pursued them. Even with truth being spoken and shown, the issue is a matter of the heart. I think that is why the Bible says, “faith is the evidence of things unseen.” There is something about faith- believing something despite the evidence unlocks a higher reality producing the evidence in the end. Jesus said, “the eye is the lamp of the body. If your eye is good great is the light within you.” This tells me that the reality of the light or darkness that we experience depends on what we are looking at- what we are believing in. Similarly if someone believes that he or she is loved and accepted, any evidence of rejection will slide off and be relatively ineffective at changing the person’s outlook on himself/ herself. Anyway, I say all of that to agree with you– belief has incredible redemptive power. I, too, classified Jung as a Redemption philosopher.
