A group of ten ACU art majors traveled with art professors Robert Green and Kenny Jones for a weekend of clay demonstrations and studio visits, art museums, sculpture gardens, and galleries. Friday evening’s highlight was B Scene, a special event at the Blanton Museum of Art on the UT campus, featuring a live band and all the great art you could ask for. Later that night the entire group was graciously hosted by potter Don Brimberry (ACU 1977, www.brimberrypottery.com) and his lovely family. After a pancake breakfast, Don took us to his studio and amazed us with his ability at throwing porcelain. Then the group traveled to the studio of Ryan McKerley (ACU 1995, www.ryanmckerley.com) who demonstrated his hot wax resist technique on greenware. Afterward, he took us outside to his kiln to explain his soda firing process. The group then saw a Chuck Close show at the Austin Museum of Art, strolled the Charles Umlauf sculpture garden, and later dined at Kerbey Lane Cafe–a hit with everyone. We concluded our Saturday night in Austin atop the scenic overlook at Mt. Bonnell, taking in the beauty of the heart of the city to the east and the hill country lake region to the west.
