Melody Lessly – Student Member ASID and Senior at ACU has received two top prizes in a national competition. The Brass Ring Awards is designed to motivate and reward students for excellence. Melody entered two projects completed in a studio course with Professor Kitty Wasemiller.

One project, Great Escapes Travel, was named a Merit Award winner. This project showcased Melody’s solution for a technological savvy travel agency. Melody developed a green design solution that included environmentally friendly aspects for use of materials and finishes and in application of design features to aid the health, safety and welfare of building occupants. She created numerous 3D modeling elements for the project in order to highlight her creative and original design for the client.

Melody tied for the Gold award along with a student from Washington State University in the Commercial Spaces over 2500 square feet. Melody’s top prize has already won two other competitions. The design for a Japanese Restaurant, Yoi’, met the challenge to create a branded design solution to launch a new franchise eatery. Melody developed a central concept for the solution, performed research to solidify her concept, drafted the project space plan solution, and illustrated the design with detailed lighting, furniture and finishes specifications. The final submission included four presentation boards showcasing computer drawn and rendered views of the interior and exterior of Yoi’.

Other winning entries in the Interior Design category included submissions from top schools such as Washington State, Florida State, Colorado State, Auburn University, Texas Tech University, University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, University of North Texas, and Texas State University.

ACU’s Interior Design program is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). For more information, contact Kitty Wasemiller, wasemillerk@acu.edu .
