Mandatory Department Meeting

There will be a madatory meeting on Tuesday March 5th at 11:30 in the Shore Art Gallery. Please make every effort to be there. If you cannot make it for any reason please come by the art office and give your name to Arlene Kasselman.

This meeting will focus primarily on advising. We will meet as a whole department for about 15 minutes and then break off into sub-groups based on discipline. Here are a few topics being discussed:

  • degree plan course sequencing (how to graduate on time)
  • departmental advising expectations
  • competitions, internships and looking for employment
  • first and second year reviews

On the topic of advising when making appointments with Arlene please take special note of what to bring to that meeting. If you are not prepared you may be asked ot reschedule your meeting. Meeting times will fill up quick as registration approaches so make appointments soon. Also, please read over the departments expectations of you in managing your degree plan.

Again if you cannot make it to the meeting due to work schedule or some other significant reason please give your name to Arlene.

DSVC Student Competition Information

Graphic Design Students,

The DSVC (Dallas Society of Visual Communication) Student Competition is here. This is a great competition with participants from several states in addition to Texas. The winners work will be shown at the student conference that is accompanied by a job fair attended by top employers throughout the state. This is a great opportunity.

The DSVC competition deadline is a week from this friday. If you can get your entries to the art office by this Tuesday at 3:pm we will ship them for you. You will need to make sure you have followed the entry process prior to dropping the entries off. The entry form receipt must be taped securely to the back of the entry. More instructions can be found here. It does mention that your work does NOT have to be mounted.
Seniors! Please consider entering. It is very good for your resume and many top employers are very aware of this competition. We have had students return from the job fair with job offers in the past so consider going to that as well!

Art Chapel: Guest Speaker Linda Egle

Join us this Thursday, February 21st, in DM 141 to welcome our Art & Design Chapel Guest speaker, Linda Egle, founder and director of Eternal Threads.

From the Eternal Threads website: ‘Eternal Threads establishes sustainable methods of helping women and their families, who live in poverty to increase their income enabling them to educate their children, buy nutritious food and medicine and other basic necessities. Increased livelihood will also help mitigate the risk of trafficking and exploitation that women and children in extreme poverty face.’

This is a continuation of our Faith and Justice Spring Chapel Series.
