I will be sending info soon about our last chapel of the semester on April 25th (we need student participation) our Annual Student Competition (begin thinking about getting a piece ready to enter that will be April 22nd), and our Annual Reviews.  We will have the blog updated soon and I will provide links with all kinds of essential info on these upcoming events. For getting work ready for the student competition (mandatory to enter one piece)

All works entered in the Student Competition must meet the following the criteria:

It is preferred that all 2D works are framed; however, works will be accepted that are matted as well as securely mounted on sturdy backing and equipped with a hanging wire (See instructions below). Posters, photographs, and prints must, at minimum, be dry-mounted on foam core board and properly prepared for hanging with wire. Thus, no pinning, hanging by clips or wires, or suspending of paper-based artworks of this kind is acceptable. Any work submitted must meet professional standards of presentation and be secure enough to safely hang on the wall for the duration of the exhibition. Paintings on canvas or mounted hardboard, if not framed, must have the sides neatly painted so as not to detract from the work.
Floor or pedestal dependent works must be safely designed and reasonably stable. Works that are top-heavy or easily toppled must be mounted securely to a base.
All works must be clean and dry to the touch. Charcoal, pastels or other dry media must be well sprayed with a fixative and should be covered with acetate, acrylic sheeting, or glass. No wet paint.
NOTE: the quality of the presentation of you work will be part of the works overall evaluation.

Specific Matting Instructions

Matted drawing must be backed with a stiff backing. Corrugated cardboard and foam-core board are ideal materials for this purpose.
A postal approved mailing or packaging tape should be used to secure the backing to the mat-board. Masking tape should NEVER be used as humidity and time will eventually cause its adhesive to fail.
The hanging picture wire should be attached to the corrugated backing by one of only two methods:

A. Cut two 2”X2” squares from extra scraps of corrugated cardboard and loop the wire underneath while gluing with a woodworking glue like Elmer’s. Do NOT use rubber cement or spray adhesive.

– OR –

B. Punch two widely spaced holes in the corrugated cardboard and thread the picture wire through both holes and securely tie the two wire ends together to make a complete circle. At this point, tape the backing to the back of the mat-board.
