ACU Feral Cat Initiative

by   |  02.11.13  |  Announcements, Environmental Health and Safety

Facilities & Campus Management is establishing the Abilene Christian University Feral Cat Initiative.  The initiative’s mission is to raise awareness about the feral and stray cats living outdoors throughout our campus; to offer solutions to prevent the number of homeless cats from increasing, and to successfully manage the existing colonies.

Our goal is to humanely reduce the number of community cats on the ACU campus, and to improve the plight of those cats currently living outdoors through the humane, non-lethal method of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is the only humane and proven-effective method to control, and eventually reduce the stray and feral cat population.TNR is the method of trapping feral cats; having them sprayed/neutered & vaccinated against rabies, and then returning them to their colony to live out the rest of their lives. TNR will help the ACU campus by stabilizing the population of the colonies, and assists in natural rodent and snake control.

Inquiries about the Feral Cat Program, and questions about volunteer opportunities can be emailed to: feralcats@groupmail.acu.edu
