Inside Higher Ed -Diversity Matters

Diversity Matters, a new book from ACU Press about race, ethnicity, and diversity at Christian colleges and universities, has received national critical acclaim. Recently, Inside Higher Ed published a feature article about the book.

Diversity Matters invites discussion among Christian colleges and universities on topics of diversity and how to position leadership in ways that honor God. Jennifer Shewmaker, Executive Director of Adams Center for Teaching and Learning and Professor of Psychology, authored chapter 15 and states, “ACU is committed to moving forward, in love and courage, to embrace the unity of Christ together.”

Faculty/Staff Meeting with Dr. Schubert and SLT

Please plan to join Dr. Schubert and members of the Senior Leadership Team on Wednesday, Nov. 15, for an update on conversations with the Board of Trustees that address key opportunities and challenges facing the university. Both meetings have the same agenda and they are from noon-1 p.m. and 4-5 p.m. in the Hunter Welcome Center, McCaleb Conference Center.

Benefits Tip: Year-End Vacation Rollover

Staff should begin to consider that only 80 hours of vacation can be rolled over to 2018. Here are some of the details for both exempt and non-exempt staff that may be helpful.

Exempt Employees
Please remember that vacation for exempt employees will roll over on January 19, 2018. To utilize all vacation available, you must anticipate the number of hours you will accrue on your 2/1/18 pay check and take them before 1/19/18.

Non Exempt Employees
Please remember that vacation for non exempt employees will roll over on January 15, 2018. To utilize all vacation available, you must anticipate the number of hours you will accrue on your 1/29/18 check and take them before 1/15/18.

Nominate December Graduates for Honor Awards

You are invited to nominate students for the December 2017 Honor Awards! You can click on this link to view a list of the eligible graduating seniors included in a drop down menu on the webpage. Nomination reasons should be at least a paragraph describing the student’s personal attributes or contributions that correspond to the award nomination.

Your input will assist the Student Life Committee in making appropriate decisions with respect to the final recipients for Honor Man or Honor Woman, Trustees Award, B Sherrod Scholarship, or Dean Adams Achievement.

Please submit your nominations for the December 2017 Honor Awards by 12:00 p.m.on Friday, November 17.

Ethnos Culture Show

The International Students of ACU would like to invite faculty, staff and your families to come to the annual culture show. Journey across the world, experiencing a showcase of international cultures and creativity including dances, songs, as well as other forms of artistic expression from all over including Thailand, Malaysia, Russia, Japan, Korea, Latin America, and more. Show starts at 7 p.m. on 11/10 and 11/11 in Cullen Auditorium. Tickets may be purchased online or at the campus center lobby from 11:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Dialogue & Nexus Journal

The Biology Department launched its online journal, Dialogue & Nexus, via Digital Commons (thanks, Laura Baker) to spotlight Senior Theses from the Biology Capstone course. The journal is fast becoming recognized for its faith & science dialogue. Since July, it has had nearly 1000 downloads of our student’s papers worldwide.
