Benefits Tip: Shared Leave Bank

by   |  06.05.23  |  Announcements, Benefits

The purpose of the Shared Leave Bank is to provide a safety net against salary interruption for employees who have a catastrophic health condition (for themselves or immediate family) causing them to be unable to perform their assigned job duties. Donations of sick leave hours by employees provide income to an affected employee who would otherwise be on unpaid leave. The purpose is not to provide unlimited sick leave for any medical reason. Benefits Tip: May is Mental Health Awareness Month

by   |  05.08.23  |  Announcements, Benefits

Our mental health is as important as our physical health. But by taking care of our bodies, we can improve our mental health. A few ways to do this are:

  • Eat nutritious meals. “What am I about to put in my body? Is it going to help it or be used for fuel?” If not, try to eat it in moderation.
  • Drink plenty of water. This can be different for everyone. Try to increase your intake because studies show 75% of Americans do not drink enough water each day.
  • Exercise. This actually releases endorphins and dopamine in our brains to help decrease depression and anxiety and improve our moods.
  • Get enough sleep. While this may sound easier said than done, a tip is to stop using electronic devices at least 30 minutes before bed. Set a bedtime and start winding down.

If you feel like you may need to seek additional help, contact the University’s Medical and Counseling Care Center at counseling@acu.edu or (325) 674-2626 or through TalkNow w/TimelyCare through UCM.
