T&P Guidelines for the GST

I have attached a document specifying additions to the current T&P Guidelines for the Graduate School of Theology. This is not a checklist of additional requirements; it simply expands the types of activities that count in ways appropriate to our work. The GST does not require a certain number of activities in each area. For the convenience of the University T&P committee, I provide a condensed version of how these guidelines affect my tenure and promotion portfolio below.

The GST expects all faculty to contribute to teaching, scholarship, service, and collegiality and allows each faculty member to engage more heavily in some of these areas than in others according to the expectations of his or her role on faculty. Throughout my portfolio, I will highlight how I am meeting the expectations of my particular role.

  • Scholarship, Creativity, and Their Equivalents—the GST additions do not affect my portfolio.
  • Service
    • Serving in various aspects of local congregational ministry
    • Service organizations, civic service, service to the community, volunteering at local schools
    • Recruiting, counseling, and mentoring students
    • Supervising student research, serving on thesis committees
    • Leadership in activities that enhance community life in the GST
    • Service that enhances the relationship between the GST, the church, and the community
  • Collegiality
    • Collaboration in activities to enrich spiritual life in the GST
    • Collaboration in activities that support community life in the GST and in the life of the university
    • Collaboration with colleagues in committee work, student evaluations, student recruiting, faculty searches, and strategic planning
    • Proactive efforts to share the burden of work in the GST, the college, and the university

The GST has no additional expectations in the area of teaching, and there are no additional criteria for tenure and promotion.
