One area in which I feel I have demonstrated strong collegiality is in my efforts on behalf of the department to develop or reestablish professional contacts within the Abilene community.  For example, in 2008, I began a new collaboration with Kenley School (our program had done some work at the school previously) by re-initiating contact and developing a working relationship with the director, Marianne Kwiecinski. This relationship has led to our now having a presence on the campus as we provide therapy services to students.

In 2010, I initiated contact with the (then) president of Abilene Christian Schools, Craig Fisher, regarding allowing our department to offer clinical services on-site, a project which was realized for the 2010-11 school year and which presently continues.  As these contacts have developed, departmental colleagues have worked with me to take advantage of the resulting opportunities.

One of the ways in which I have worked collaboratively to nurture community contacts was by working with Diana Taylor to prepare and present a free continuing education program (approved for credit) on the topic of clinical supervision to our Abilene CSD professionals.  With 13 supervising professionals in attendance, we were able to communicate to these SLPs how much we appreciate their partnership in preparing students as clinicians.  Ms. Taylor referenced this workshop in her letter, attached in the section on “Collegiality within the University Community.”
