The following is a list/description of the courses for which I currently have curricular and teaching responsibility:

ComP 330 — Normal Language Development:  a comprehensive overview of the normal acquisition of language, emphasizing prelinguistic development and the development of the systems of semantics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and pragmatics. (Required course for CSD majors)

ComP 471 — Speech-Language Pathology Services in Schools (formerly Language and Learning Disabilities): A survey of speech and language services provided in the public schools as directed by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 2004, including an overview of the different types of disabilities provided for by the act.  The course focus is on the introduction of methods of assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for related speech, language, and communication disorders. (Required course for CSD majors)

ComP 600 — Guided Study:  Bilingual Language Development and Disorders Across the Lifespan:  A comprehensive study of the milestones of Spanish language and bilingual (Spanish-English) language development, including a review of research regarding effective strategies for assessment and intervention with children and adults (taught each spring semester for graduate students in the Bilingual Emphasis Program as an elective course).

ComP 608 — Multicultural Issues in Assessment and Intervention: An advanced study of the communication issues related to cultural and linguistic diversity, providing the requisite knowledge and skills that a speech language pathologist will need to work with CLD populations.  These include the ability to differentiate a language difference from a disorder, and to assess and treat clients whose cultural and/or linguistic backgrounds are different from their own. (Required for the M.S. degree in CSD)

ComP 610 —  Advanced Study of Language Disorders in Children: A study of the cognitive/neurological substrates of developmental language disorders in children,  and the associated linguistic and behavioral characteristics of children with language impairment.  Emphasis is on the application of research to the practices of assessment and intervention. (Required for the M.S. degree in CSD)

ComP 659 — Seminar in Diagnostic and Therapeutic Theory: An advanced study of the principles of evaluation and treatment of communication disorders. (Required for the M.S. degree in CSD)

ComP 670 — Professional Issues in Speech Language Pathology:    An overview of  a range of professional issues in the field of Speech-Language Pathology.  Topics include issues of ethical professional practice, certification, licensure, specialty recognition, ASHA policies and guidelines, and current health care reimbursement issues. (Required for the M.S. degree in CSD)

Other courses (not currently scheduled):

EaCH 363 — Early Language and Literacy (2008 – 09): Addresses developmental issues and teaching strategies related to oral language and early literacy development. Topics included strategies to provide communication and language supports for young children with developmental challenges and strategies for teaching children with limited English proficiency in the early childhood classroom.
