Participation in scholarship is important to me.  Although proportionally more of my time is spent in teaching and preparing to teach,  I have learned from experience that scholarship and teaching go hand-in-hand, and that research of all types informs and enriches the classroom.  Sharing ideas with like-minded colleagues, formally and informally, through reading, writing, presenting and attending presentations, has been a very rewarding aspect of this position.

I am actively involved in scholarship in three areas of study (two having to do with multicultural issues and one to do with the science of teaching):  1)  the L1 and L2 language characteristics of Spanish-English bilinguals; 2) Assessment of CLD speakers of English, including dynamic and narrative assessment, and 3) Cognitive Load Theory as applied to the teaching of communication sciences and disorders.

In the pages that follow I will detail how I have worked within these areas of study to produce 14 scholarly products and thereby satisfy the departmental requirements for tenure and promotion.
