Name: Mike and Jennifer Taylor

Occupation: Architects

Location: Prescott, Arizona

Outdoorsmen, campers and avid mountain bikers.

Mike and Jennifer love to go camping but they usually only go to the same old campgrounds. One of the couples they go camping with told Jennifer about (app) anyhow it has really helped them find a new place to camp and gave them ideas for future camping locations. Jennifer got the app and used it   to find a nice place to camp with space for their tents and trailer in a national forest, that is also close to the mountain biking trials that they love to ride.

 Name: Ralph Lastnamenson

Occupation: Extreme Guy (REI for money)

Location: Phoenix, Arizona

Adventurer and extreme lifestyle liver. Loves the woods, and loves helping people learn to love the woods.

Ralph works at one of the R.E.I stores down in the valley. He often gets lots of rich snobby customers who claim to be camping experts, but don’t ever know where to go camping at. After dealing with lots of returns and upset customers because their outdoor experience wasn’t what they thought it would be, Ralph sought out something to help aid and guide is weary customers. Ralph came across (App) and now recommends it to all of his customers because he has had great success with it himself as an easy tool to help out the novice camper find a great place to camp, wether its at a site or out in the woods. (Even though Ralph is extreme and doesn’t need the app obviously). He said that (App) made fining a  camp ground near a lake with hiking trials, in the woods around Williams, AZ (his specified search) was extremely easy and the experience went over all well.

Interview Summaries

I interviewed a total of 12 people because the first 2 people I interviewed don’t go camping.

The first thing I found is that everyone i interviewed doesn’t have cell service when they go camping.

I also found that often they are plagued with closed roads and trails because of natural fallen objects across said roads or trails. When I asked them if there was a way to save that point on a map on their phone while offline so they could send it to the forrest service, would they ever use it and would it be helpful. 7 out of 10 said yes.

Some other people said it would be nice to have a social networking-esq app for outdoors people so they could share sweet trails and camping spots that they have been to, and they also thought that a feature to pin where dangerous wildlife has been spotted would also be useful. Since once an area becomes popular bears are usually soon to follow.

Of my 10 people 2 were hunters and they said that a app to show were lots of wild game had been spotted would not be used by either of them because it takes to trill of tracking out of the equation.

5. When camping how often do you come across wildlife?

6. When planing your camping trip, how do you find out about places to camp, trails, hunting areas, or information relating to burn-bans and current wildlife rules? Do you plan ahead at all?

Ideation

1. Airport directional map that pops up on your device when you enter the airports wifi

2. Printing app that integrates and connects your device to printers so you can remotely print.

3.Arizona forrest service app that shows you what trails, roads, campsites and sections of the forrest are closed. Areas where hunting is allowed and a social aspect where hunters can ping where they have seen game or a fallen tree on a trail or something.

4. A mobile portfolio app that highlights designers key peices along with awards they have won and how to contact them. This would only show or highlight 3-4 designs it would not be a full mobile portfolio site.

5.Trash can finder. This app lets eco friendly people know where the nearest green peace club is. Or trashcans and recycling centers.

Project 3 Reflection

I really liked this project and had a lot of fun doing it, but there were some things i noticed along the way that I want to comment about! The first off being that I still have some slight spacing issues that i noticed when we were looking at the finals, these can be sen mostly on the story page. It isn’t anything hugely noticeable but I saw it and now that little technical mistake really bothers me.

Conceptually I rushed into one of my first ideas, which I still think turned out well and I really like it, but then as I was doing some of my sketches after the fact I came across two or three more ideas that would have been brilliant for a blog type website. So I would say that my big weakness conceptually was rushing forward without taking the proper time on my process. I really am pleased with my website and think that it is the best one that I have put out so far but it kills me to thinking about if it could have been better with some of my other ideas.

As far as over all improvement goes I have noticed me increased attention to detail and keenness to noticed subtlety, (which doesn’t mean the I necessarily accomplished it) I think that the subtle choice of colors and type really benefited me in this project. This can definitely be seen in my heading and body copy and alignment when compared to previous posts. I really like the way I handled the archive page and think that it is one of my strongest showings in a web design project thus far in the class. Overall I am very pleased with the site, but I know that it still can use some work and tweaks here and there, it’s by no means perfect.

I also could afford to improve on my process, like I stated before I don’t know how it would have turned out but I would like to think that if I would have done my process in the intended order that i could have come out with some awesome layouts and designs. Not doing the process in the logical order is kind of killing my potential projects.
