Art + Design Weekly Announcements

Please be sure you are reading these announcements. Let me know if you have any questions – I can be reached at kara.taylor@acu.edu, 325-674-2085, or 325-514-0635 for any time I’m not in the office.

A+D Departmental Chapel

Join us for the A+D chapel series Juxtaposition. We meet every Thursday at 11am in the Shore Gallery. Different speakers will present each week. Dan McGregor will be presenting tomorrow. All A+D majors are encouraged to attend, all ACU students are welcome to attend. See you tomorrow!

Study Abroad – New York Spring Break Trip

Study abroad interest meeting and sign-up days will be next week. Keep a lookout in your inbox for additional information.

Lockers

We have started cleaning out unlabeled lockers and adding labels to the lockers that have been checked out. Having a lock and no name on your locker is not sufficient. Locks will be cut off of unlabeled lockers. Lockers are still available on the 2nd and 3rd floor of the Don Morris building if you are still needing one – please come by the office between 8am and 3:30pm to reserve one. If your locker is not labeled and you would like to keep it, please come by or email me ASAP with your locker # so that I can make note of it and not clean it out.

ACU Health Precautions

Beginning Sept. 7, and for the next two weeks, all faculty and students – regardless of vaccination status – will be required to wear face coverings in classrooms, labs, studios and other instructional spaces, and indoor Chapel gatherings. All other common interior spaces on campus will remain mask-optional, including the Bean.

Blog & Student Handbook

…an answer to all of your A+D questions – a very important resource for all art majors. Click this link to go directly to the blog: acuartanddesign.com. Be sure to check out the Student Handbook under the Resources section of the blog. The link to the blog is also included in my signature in all emails that I send out. I will go over this blog in detail with all first year A+D students during our one-on-one appointments in September. (You’ll hear more about the one-on-one’s in a few weeks.)

Card Access

Card swipe access to all the Art + Design spaces in the Don Morris building is 7am- midnight including holidays. You are allowed to remain in the building after midnight, but if you leave the building, you will not be able to re-enter the building until the following day at 7am. Please let me know if you are ever asked to leave the building after midnight – occasionally the staff that works at night is not aware that you are allowed to stay past midnight and I can communicate this policy to them if needed. Card swipe access is active for the following doors: north exterior entrance (across from the gallery), south exterior entrances (1st floor door that looks out towards the library and 2nd floor door that leads up to the Interior Design spaces), both labs and the new print room.

A+D Staff Changes

You might have noticed that you haven’t seen Mike Wiggins around the building this semester. Mike Wiggins, A+D Department Chair, is on sabbatical this semester creating a documentary on creativity. Dr Trey Shirley, A+D Assistant Department Chair, has stepped in as interim department chair while Mike is gone.

Safety Plan – Mask Policy

In an effort to keep all members of our community safe, the Art + Design department has received university approval to require all students to wear face coverings over their mouth and nose, regardless of vaccination status, while in the Don Morris building, specifically in Art + Design spaces which includes hallways.

Last but not least…

We are here to support you in school and life. If you need anything at all, please, please, please talk to me or another A+D faculty member. We want you to be successful not only in your course work but in life as well. My office hours are typically 8am – 3:30pm – feel free to stop by anytime. If there’s anything we can help you with, please let us know!! Seriously!
