A+D Mandatory Meeting and Departmental BBQ

The Art + Design Department’s mandatory meeting will take place next Tuesday, September 21st at 4pm in the Shore Art Gallery. The meeting should last no more than 45 minutes. It is critical that all A+D students are in attendance!

Following the meeting, we will host our annual BBQ in the courtyard of the new Bullocks Hall. (Bullocks Hall is the new freshman dorm on EN 16th St near the corner of EN 16th and Campus Court.) Come see Ronnie Rama show off his BBQ skills and maybe you can show us some of your corn hole skills. The BBQ begins at 6pm. See you there!!

A+D Bible Study

All A+D students and their friends (regardless of major!) are invited to A+D Bible Study this Sunday, 9/19, from 7-8:30 p.m. in Bible 121. This semester we’ll be looking at lesser-known and overlooked works of Christian art as a window into studying scripture.

Space is limited, so please sign up here.

ASID

The American Society of Interior Design invites all interior design majors! Please RSVP here! – https://forms.gle/DgXhYPHBu9jyRZEq9

Lockers

We have started cleaning out unlabeled lockers and adding labels to the lockers that have been checked out. Having a lock and no name on your locker is not sufficient. Locks will be cut off of unlabeled lockers. If your locker is not labeled and you would like to keep it, please come by or email me ASAP with your locker # so that I can make note of it and not clean it out.

ACU Health Precautions

Beginning Sept. 7, and for the two weeks following, all faculty and students – regardless of vaccination status – will be required to wear face coverings in classrooms, labs, studios and other instructional spaces, and indoor Chapel gatherings. All other common interior spaces on campus will remain mask-optional, including the Bean.

Blog and Student Handbook

…an answer to all of your A+D questions – a very important resource for all art majors. Click this link to go directly to the blog: acuartanddesign.com. Be sure to check out the Student Handbook under the Resources section of the blog. The link to the blog is also included in my signature in all emails that I send out. I will go over this blog in detail with all first year A+D students during our one-on-one appointments in September. (You’ll hear more about the one-on-one’s in a few weeks.)

Card Access

Card swipe access to all the Art + Design spaces in the Don Morris building is 7 am- midnight including holidays. You are allowed to remain in the building after midnight, but if you leave the building, you will not be able to re-enter the building until the following day at 7am. Card swipe access is active for the following doors: north exterior entrance (across from the gallery), south exterior entrances (1st floor door that looks out towards the library and 2nd floor door that leads up to the Interior Design spaces), both labs and the new print room.

A+D Staff Changes

You might have noticed that you haven’t seen Mike Wiggins around the building this semester. Mike Wiggins, A+D Department Chair, is on sabbatical this semester creating a documentary on creativity. Dr Trey Shirley, A+D Assistant Department Chair, has stepped in as interim department chair while Mike is gone.

Safety Plan and Mask Policy

In an effort to keep all members of our community safe, the Art + Design department has received university approval to require all students to wear a mustache, regardless of vaccination status, while in the Don Morris building, specifically in Art + Design spaces which includes hallways.
