Picking Up Art Work

If your work was NOT selected for the student competition you MUST pick it up on Monday between 1:30 and 4:00 in the Art History Room (Rm 141).

In an effort to minimize damage we are only offering this window of time to collect work. If you can not pick up your work during this time please have someone else pick it up for you. If your work is not picked up or you do not contact Arlene we cannot guarantee the work won’t be discarded or damaged. We do not have a way to store it.

INTD submissions were picked up by Kitty. Please see her for those. Thank you!

Art & Design Students

Imagine the fun you will have on monday hanging out with other students in the gallery! We are needing volunteers to help out on the day student competition entries come in. It is a fun way to meet other art majors, see all the work coming in and help out the department. It will even count as an art event credit!

The Woodlands Community Impact Newspaper

We are looking for a graphic designer that is passionate about creating high quality, accurate and creative artwork. If you are able to engage our clients with high-impact designs, we have an opportunity that you do not want to miss. This position is responsible for the design and layout of a variety of creative materials, including the Katy newspaper, advertisements, direct mail and marketing pieces.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related coursework
  • At least one (1) year of prior experience in graphic design
  • Experience using Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat Pro
  • Experience with file preparation for CMYK output
  • Ability to pass the Company’s graphic design test

Essential Job Functions:

  • Layout newspaper using Adobe InDesign while following company’s design guidelines
  • Read and analyze editorial articles in order to generate original design ideas for info-graphics that will supplement editorial stories
  • Collaborate with reporters and editors to gain further insight and understanding of stories
  • Create accurate graphics, charts and maps that visually support and supplement editorial stories
  • Meet editorial deadlines for daily production, proofing and final output
  • Ability to analyze and interpret news and create graphics that visually communicate information
  • Prepare and save editorial graphics, photos and text for upload to web, in time to meet the web department’s deadlines
  • Collaborate with Account Executives and Account Coordinators to produce effective advertisements that meet the needs of clients
  • Present necessary ad proofs to sales team on time, ensuring that client has adequate time for review and approval
  • Meet the minimum number of monthly ads produced (ad quota), as set by the Ad Production Manager

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Maintain an awareness of current design trends and a working knowledge of the latest industry software
  • Ensure that all advertisements and graphics are properly prepared for 4-color press output Maintain a professional appearance
  • Comply with other job-related instructions and perform any other duties that, in the opinion of the Market Editor, General Manager or any other supervisor(s), are reasonably related to his/her primary job responsibilities, required to assist other employees, or complement Community Impact Newspaper’s efforts generally
