Get savvy about Wi-Fi hotspots: Limit the type of business you conduct at a local hotspot.  For instance, you might not want to do your banking while at Starbucks.

Protect your $$: When banking and shopping, check to be sure the site is security enabled. Look for web addresses with “https://” or “shttp://,” which means the site takes extra measures to help secure your information. “Http://” is not secure.

Share with care: Think before posting about yourself and others online. Consider what a post reveals, who might see it and how it could be perceived now and in the future.

Informational meetings for Benefits Open Enrollment will begin this week. We will be in Chapel on the Hill on Thursday, October 20, 9:00 – 10:30 and Friday, October 21, 9:00 – 10:30.

The ACU Medical Clinic is partnering with Human Resources to offer free flu shots to all ACU insured employees, their spouses and dependents 12 and over on the Abilene campus. We will have licensed medical professionals from Hendrick Provider Network available to administer the vaccine.

Flu shots are considered preventative and can also be obtained at your physician’s office or pharmacy. The high dose injectable flu shots (Fluzone) are not covered.

Sing Song ticket sales will go live online Nov. 1 at www.acu.edu/singsong, but for people on campus for Homecoming there will be an advance opportunity to buy tickets in person.
Advance Sing Song ticket sales will take place Friday, Oct. 21, from 4-6 p.m. in the lower level of the Campus Center, then again on Saturday, Oct. 22, from 11:45 (after Homecoming Chapel)-1:30 p.m. in the lower level of the Campus Center.

ACU Press invites you to a come-and-go farewell reception honoring Mary Hardegree on Wednesday, October 26th from 3:00 to 4:30 in the Library Atrium. Mary has worked for ACU for a little over ten years, the past five years at ACU Press. Mary is starting a new adventure in Tacoma. Please come by and wish her well.

First and foremost, keep in mind that technology alone will never be able to fully protect you. Attackers have learned that the easiest way to bypass even the most advanced security technology is by attacking you. If they want your password, credit card, or personal data, the easiest thing for them to do is to trick you into giving them this information. For example, they can call you pretending to be Microsoft tech support and claim that your computer is infected, when in reality they are just cyber criminals that want you to give them access to your computer. Or perhaps they will send you an email explaining that your package could not be delivered and ask you to click on a link to con rm your mailing address, when in reality they are tricking you into visiting a malicious website that will hack into your computer. This is how attacks such as Ransomware or CEO Fraud start. Ultimately, the greatest defense against attackers is you. Be suspicious. By using common sense, you can spot and stop most attacks.

Dr. Dana Kennamer Pemberton has been named to the board for the Society for Children’s Spirituality (Christian Perspectives), an international ecumenical organization of academics and thoughtful practitioners dedicated to promoting informed practice regarding children’s spirituality. The Society represents a broad range of Christian faith traditions and strives to create opportunities for dialogue and collaboration between researchers and practitioners through their conferences, publications, and social media presence.
