  1. These portraits have such a personal quality. You get a glimpse of of the subjects true feeling at the time. Very casual, candid, and insightful. It was surprising to see how many famous writers, artist, and celebrities he has had the chance to meet and photograph in just one lifetime.

  2. I really enjoy Dan Winters style of photography, he seems to have created his own brand. I liked his “places and things” photos the best. They seemed to be reminiscent of Bernd and Hilla Becher, with heavy use of symmetrical industrial images. I find it fascinating that something that was created purely for scientific reasons can also be so aesthetically pleasing.

  3. I was simply amazed by these images. I could not believe that Morell got these results from a camera obscura. I had to see the process he used to do this, but it was exactly the same as the one we used in the classroom. I really enjoyed Morell’s website. His work seems very approachable, curious, and playful; creating wonderful images from simple household objects. I also enjoyed being able to see the evolution of Morell as an artist. From his childhood photos all the way to the present, with everything labeled and dated. He seems very down to earth, and shows you don’t even have to leave your house to make a great photograph.

  4. I really liked the “Architect’s Brother” series. It seems to be a very successful blending of different styles. I thought the vintage 1920’s quirky style mixed with surrealism was very interesting. It made some of the photos fun while others had dark and serious undertones. My favorite was the man on the beech with the giant chains holding him back. Very simple, but it really conveyed feelings of power and rage.
