  1. I absolutely LOVE Gregory Crewdson’s use of lighting and composition. It’s fascinating to think that he spends so much time creating the perfect setting for the image he has invisioned – and that he has an entire team to help him accomplish it. One thing that I really appreciate about him as an artist is that he inspires other artists to value their work. Granted, he has an check for $60,000 a piece to prove his work is valuable….but I think he initially had to step out in belief that all of his efforts were worth it for a single shot.

  2. I really appreciate Annie’s eye for composition. Sometimes I think it’s easy to heighten contrast or change the color to catch the audience’s eye – but she doesn’t have to. In the Disney collection and American Music she really knows hos to compose an interesting image. Lastly, I may be the only one who feels this way, but I’m not a fan of the Disney series. She really did a great job casing a vision and bringing it to life… but something about seeing people’s realistic faces placed in this blatantly photoshop mystical setting weirds me out.

  3. Man, Joel Sternfeld has a real gift for making the most mundane settings that others would overlook and creating something extra-ordinary. I love the simplicity of his images and how they have an unstated elegance. His use of a single prop in his portraits keep them from being cheesy, but still communicate something about the individual’s personality or profession. His landscapes are extremely refreshing too in that they don’t rely on a lot of color modification or photoshop to be appealing. He just has a good eye.

  4. John Paul seems to approach photography with a completely different intention than most photographers. Rather than trying to “capture” something he sees, it’s as though he is constantly on the look out for simple elements that he can compose into a work of art. With his use of color and line, he seems more of a painter that happens to work in the medium of photography. Plus, I must applaud his fearlessness towards centrality.
