Reflection

I don’t think I had too many problems with technical weaknesses since we have been working on details and gotten used to photoshop throughout the semester. If I did have a technical mistake it would probably be minor with the placement of the screen on the iPhone.

I don’t know if I had any conceptual mistakes with this project. I feel like I tried to get as many details of usage into this project. I tried thinking about how small the screen actually is and how a person would use this app on a real phone. Some of the designs I started in my wireframes were too small for a person to touch on their phone, so I decided to make some of the buttons on the screen bigger in my final so that it would work properly.

As I have been improving my skills in Photoshop, I feel like there’s not a whole need for improvement. Of course in every project there’s a little room for improvement because a design is not always perfect but I’m not sure what that may be. Possibly improving on color schemes or something like that would be efficient.

I definitely see improvement since the beginning of this class. At first I didn’t know how to layout a website or know how to design an interactive piece that would look good. But now after taking this class I have learned a lot and feel like my skills of designing an interactive piece has improved, especially in app design.

There is always room to improve like I said before. I think some of the things I need to improve are just minor details and I do want to make an interactive piece that looks professional. I feel like a lot of my work as a designer focuses more on illustration since that is my strength, but I want some of my designs to look more professionally done.

Overall, I enjoyed this class and projects that we have done. I think I enjoyed creating apps more than I did creating website pages. I think with a smaller space it is easier to design. I talked to the ACU Athletics department and told them I would like to make my ACU Athletics app a reality. However I am graduating on Saturday and leaving Abilene so I don’t know how I can get this up and running. I know I can talk to a professor in the business department that could possibly program it for me but I need to get it approved from ACU. Hopefully this will become a reality.

Tasks & Functionality

Tasks List:

1. Infographs your food throughout the day

2. Infographs the money you’ve spent that week and adds up throughtout the month/year (and what you’ve paid highest on)

3. Share infographs found with facebook/twitter

4. Infographs your class attendance

5. Infographs colors of certain subjects (ex: money tracker can be green)

Functionality:

After grabbing ideas from the class and understanding the ideas of what this app can do, here is what I want the functionality of this app to be:

-Will make infographics from certain apps on your phone (not all) ex: calls, text messages, itunes, mail, maps, facebook, twitter, calendar

-Will coordinate colors into the infographic that fits the subject

-Will have the ability to track your phone locations by gps (has the ability to be turned on or off)

-Have the choice of selection of infographics with the same subject like angry birds vs. tap tap (games section). Will have sections for games, social media, informative, photo, etc.

Project 4: Reflection

Personally, I really enjoyed this project. It was difficult figuring out the layouts of the app and screen connections at first but I got the hang of it. I think the more I have used Photoshop the more I know how to use it in a faster amount of time. I don’t feel like there were as much technical mistakes for this project than the other projects. The only thing I can think of is possibly a little bit of spacing issues but not too bad.

I think conceptually trying to figure out what screens connect to what and how everything was going to work and interact with the audience was difficult figuring out. I think my planning of connecting screens could of been easier, but I think the more I dealt with trying to figure it out the more complicated it got so I left it how it was. I think the scheduling the games alert was one of the more tricky screens. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to click all the games at once and schedule them all at once or pick one game at a time and plug in the time. I didn’t want to do all the games at once because what if someone wanted to change the time on one of them. Therefore, I made it where you schedule one game at a time but it always had the option to be set to alert one hour before the game so they could just select ok or change the time and repeat alerts if needed.

Like I said above, the specific details that I could improve of was the interaction of the scheduling of alerts screen. Just figuring out the easiest way to schedule a game or set of games for the user. It was just difficult thinking about if someone wanted to see all the home acu atheltics teams and wanted to schedule all of them..how long would that take them to do? However, if a user just wants to see one football game..how can I make it easy for them to just schedule on their phone. So I went with the solution I have by just scheduling one game at a time with the alert of one hour before or the option to change the time.

I see improvements of dealing with details, layout, and spacing in this project. I know with some of my website designs I can trouble with sizing and spacing but I think since I was dealing with a small screen it was easier to spot out. I think my app looks more professional than my websites which I like the most.

Overall, I think I can improve on making this app look a little cleaner and the way it interacts with the user. But I really enjoyed this project and think ACU Athletics could use this app for fellow students and faculty. I talked to my boss who works in the Athletics Dept. and he got a hold of the person I should talk to about this so hopefully this could turn into a real app.
