On Saturday September 14, Dr. Cooke and Dr. Nicodemus organized a day to clean up the Cedar Creek Waterway here in Abilene. This was the second such project, the first was on March 2, 2013. The Cedar Creek Waterway runs from Kirby Lake to Lake Fort Phantom. It is approximately a 15 mile trail and most of the other creeks in Abilene feed into it at some point. More »

A New Year for the Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Club

Along with the new school year comes new officers for the Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Club (or AES Club). This year’s officers are President Will Morales, a junior Wildlife Management and Livestock Production major from Rotan, Texas, Vice President Bryce Gerlach, a senior Environmental Science major from Far Hills, New Jersey, and Chaplin Cade Deines, a Communications major from Cypress, Texas. A&E Study Abroad Trip to Zambia

The class offered was AENV 440, International Applications in Agricultural and Environmental Studies, and it focused on methods of sustainability in Zambia. The members of our department that went were Dr. Nicodemus, Jason Davis, Merissa Ford, senior Agribusiness major, Kim Panther, sophomore Animal Science major, and Dayna Roe, junior Environmental Science major.

Some of the highlights of the trip included visiting Victoria Falls and going on a safari, getting to stay in the local village and singing and dancing around a campfire with the locals. I even heard that Dr. Nicodemus is quite the dancer! More »

A&E Students Attend TCTWS Annual Meeting

For the first time, A&E students and faculty attended The Texas Chapter of the Wildlife Society Annual Meeting on February 20-23 in Houston, Texas.

Students took part in a plant identification competition and the Quiz Bowl. More »

Jessica Epps received First Place at SAAS Conference

Jessica Epps, junior animal science major from Georgetown, Texas received first place in the undergraduate research poster competition at the SAAS Conference in Orlando, Florida.

Jessica’s research examined commercially available soil testing kits and compared their results to professional soil labs at TAMU and LSU. More »

A&E New Home on Campus

Each new semester brings changes. With the news of a department location change, the A&E family was sad to leave their home in Zona Luce, which is being renovated to house ACU’s first on-campus nursing school.

Monty McInturff Outstanding Alumnus of the Year

Monty McInturff began Veterinary School at Auburn University after graduating from ACU in 1985. While at ACU, Monty was on the Livestock Judging Team with Dr. Edwin Dubois

Aaron Winter Young Professional of the Year

Aaron Winter is a man of many interests. From Boy Scouts to Bobcats, he has a variety of experiences. He graduated from ACU with a degree in Environmental Science in 2003 and now serves as a Rental Manager at Templeton Equipment Company.

While at ACU, Aaron was social club president of Trojans and involved with the ACU Rodeo Club. He is active in Boy Scouts of America, working and completing an internship at Philmont Boy Scout Ranch in Cimarron, N.M. More »

Agriculture Missions Lunch

Monday, Sept. 17, the A&E department hosted an Agriculture Missions Luncheon at Hillcrest Church of Christ. Representatives from a Zambia mission and Helping Hands International spoke to students regarding holistic mission efforts.

Jason Davis (’10) spoke of his recent experience in a Zambia mission field. After graduating from ACU with an animal science degree, he and his wife, Erin, joined some of his family in Zambia. He spoke of the introduction of animal production and key points of sustainability. More »
