Weekly Announcements – 10/28/2013

A&D Departmental Chapel

Our chapel theme this semester is Encountering God. We are looking forward to hearing from Dan McGregor this week on the topic, “Encountering God in Atheists.” We will meet this Thursday, October 31st at 11:00am in 141.

Mat Cutter

As many of you are probably aware, we are missing the metal insert that fits into the straight-cut side of our mat cutter. This is the part that holds the blade for making straight (non-bevel) cuts into matboard.

IF YOU KNOW WHERE THIS IS, PLEASE RETURN IT!!! It is a $50 part and its absence reduces the effectiveness of our mat cutter significantly. You can return it to the mat cutting room or drop it in the art office. No questions will be asked; the department just needs the cutter fully functioning again.

Senior INTD major Wins ASID TX Chapter Student Competition

Senior INTD major, Gracie Ferreyro, received FIRST PLACE honors for her entry in the TX Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers Student Competition for 2013. The announcement of her win came during the TX Chapter of ASID Student Symposium in Dallas. Gracie’s entry, The Candor Boutique Hotel, competed against other student entrants across the state. Her FIRST PLACE win was in the Hospitality Design category which judged portfolio projects showcasing hotels, restaurants, spas and etc. Gracie’s project included the public lobby of the hotel, a luxury spa, and two types of hotel guest room options. Her solution utilized cutting edge technologies and portrayed design features that would be responsive to a young generation of emerging professionals. The youthful design, based on the popular Grammy hit, “We are Young,” by the band fun. features a mixture of patterns, finishes and details expressive of the post college crowd of professionals seeking lodging for business and pleasure today. Congratulations! Gracie!
