Weekly Announcements for week of April 1:

 

 2013 Student Competition – Updated Info – All art and design majors are required to enter the annual student competition. This is considered the ‘application’ for scholarship funds awarded at this event. These scholarships are competitive, awarded based on merit rather than need, and are typically offered as an encouragement to students showing exceptional promise as developing artist and designers. AIGA Meeting this Thursday – 

Important AIGA meeting in DM 141 this Thursday, April 18, at 6pm.  Elections for next year will be held and details about the upcoming Dallas trip will be discussed.  You do not want to miss this meeting and it is the last of the semester. 

  

Shore and Cockerell Galleries – 

Don’t forget Terra Incognita, a show featuring the work of Robert Green, Kenny Jones and Polly Jones in the Downtown Gallery.  The final Senior Show of the semester, Character, will close at the end of this week.

First and Second Year Reviews – All Art & Design majors are required to participate in two student review sessions before graduation. These will take place at the end of your first and second year as an art and design major, during the spring semester. This typically takes place the thursday and friday before finals week. A sign-up calendar is emailed out to students a few weeks prior. Please see the blog for expectations.http://blogs.acu.edu/artanddesign/studentreviews/
 
Junior & Senior Graphic Design Students – Kay Harbin from dessertstartshere.com is looking for a Graphic Design student who would like to earn a little money while doing some web design work.  Please contact her at 325.8292335
 
Graduation May Graduation: Make sure you have a graduation clearance from Lisa Maloney, August Graduation: Make sure you have all your classes taken or registered for the summer in order to graduate and communicate with Lisa Maloney.

 

Project Merge: Donation Drop-Off

535866_326566817446699_170103973_nProject Merge donation drop off is Saturday, April 13 11am-4pm in the parking lot at the corner of East North 16th and Judge Ely! Bring any usable furniture, decorations, kitchen and bath accessories, paint, painting supplies, art work or anything else you would like to donate! For various reasons there were mistakes on the schedule in Banner. Please note the following important time changes for Art and Design Classes for the Fall.
  • 14452 – ART 105: 2D Design is MWF 8:00-9:50  previously listed as 9:00-10:50 (Sadler)
  • 14432 – ART 106: 3D Design is MWF 8:00-9:50  previously listed as 9:00-10:50 (Oiler)
  • 14426 – ART 221: Gen Survey 1 is MW 16:00-17:20 previously listed as 15:00-16:20 (Rama)
  • 14468 – DSGN 111: Design Drawing 1 is MWF 8-9:50  previously listed as 9:00-10:50 (Rama)
  • 14437 – DSGN 221 Hist of Architecture and Design 1 is MW 16:00-17:20 previously listed as 10:00-10:50 (Rama)
Please check your schedules carefully if any of these apply to you or if you are already registered in any of these classes.

Hello Everyone! Registration craziness is almost over. Freshmen be sure and check Banner to see what is still available so you have less stress when registering tomorrow.

  • Come to DM 141 on Thursday, April 11, at 11:00 a.m.  and meet John Silvis, Brooklyn-based artist and Director of NYCAMS. We’ll have a brief devotional time (for Chapel credit) and then John will share information about opportunities to study visual art, design, or writing in New York City.
    • NYCAMS is a faith-based artist and writing residency program that offers the opportunity to live, create, and interact in the cutting edge cultural capital of the world, New York City. All NYCAMS programs are led by New York-based artists, writers, and art historians and benefit from being located in the heart of Manhattan where students can regularly interact with the art world.
    • NYCAMS Student Exhibition
      • Semester Art Residency Program
    • NYCAMS offers a 16-credit, one-semester undergraduate residency program in the fall and the spring. The program includes an internship and culminates in a student exhibition.
    • Post-Baccalaureate Program
      • This 9-month studio program offers students who have finished their undergraduate work the opportunity to build their portfolio in preparation for graduate school, or to continue their professional development. This is a program for talented and self-motivated young artists who want a professional future in the visual arts.
    • Semester Writing Residency Program
      • NYCAMS offers a 16-credit, one-semester undergraduate residency program in the fall and spring. The program includes an internship and culminates in a public reading of student work.
  • Chisholm House Assisted Living Community contacted us about needing a mural painted.  They are located at 1450 EN 10th Street.  If you are interested please contact Ginger Perdue, Residence Director at Chisholm House (325) 670-0961. They are ready to get started on it and get it done as soon as possible.  I have a copy of the mural if you want to come by my office to look at it.
  • Tonight! Downtown Gallery Reception for Terra Incognita Downtown Gallery tonight 5:30-8:30. Reception for the Opening of Terra Incognita, a show featuring the work of Robert Green, Kenny Jones and Polly Jones during Artwalk.
