Art & Design Weekly Announcements 3/1/22
Hello ACU A&D,
It’s crazy to believe that it’s already March! As we head toward Spring Break, here are a few opportunities this week:
Design Opportunity: Abilene Gives

Big Country CASA is in need of graphics for a yearly giving campaign- Abilene Gives. On May 3, 2022, Abilene Gives will launch a 24-hour period of giving to select nonprofits. We would like to promote this day of giving on all social media platforms and via postcards, highlighting Big Country CASA and the work that we do. This could look like a save the date, scan/text to give, and any other graphics! Learn more about Abilene Gives here, and more information about Big Country CASA can be found here.
If you have any questions or are interested in helping, contact Lauren Anderson at laurenanderson@bigcountrycasa.org.

A&D Spring Chapel Series: Value
Join us this semester for our chapel series exploring the theme “Value.” In art, value refers to the relative lightness or darkness of something within an image. But, of course, value has many other meanings (e.g. something’s worth, a person’s principles, a numerical amount, etc.). Come hear speaker’s from across campus explore one or more of these meanings in their talk, reflecting on what this term means to them personally, how it relates to their discipline, or what strikes them as interesting about it in relation to the gospel.
Competition Winner: Bekah Conder!
Bekah Conder, senior art major with a concentration in painting, received word that one of her paintings will appear in the Rising Eyes of Texas Exhibition. This competition invites entries from graduate and undergraduate level art students studying at universities across Texas. She is among the 34 artists from 15 universities that had a work chosen.
Fall 2022 Study Abroad in Leipzig, Germany with Nil Santana
Leipzig is a bustling city that found itself at the epicenter of The Peaceful Revolution. In Leipzig you will experience German culture, while living in the ACU’s beautifully renovated 19th-century villa.
Nil has led a couple of Art & Design summer programs as well as a semester-long program to Montevideo, Uruguay. A world traveler, Nil enjoys learning about people and their customs, and embraces diverse culinary experiences as cultural expressions. Nil, and his wife Tecia, are excited to take you to Germany.

Please help support our Instagram Competition! This is a great way to connect with our alumni and show them what we are up to. The current judge is Chris Jimenez, a fantastic designer and photographer.

Artie is Back!
See this little elephant guy – you’ll need to keep an eye out for him. He’ll be hiding in a new location every day for the next 5 days. Find him and bring him to Kara in the A+D office (DM 142) to receive a prize – and might I add that the prizes are amped up this year! You never know where he might be hiding but he’ll always hide in a public space. Good luck!!

51st Annual Int’l Paperworks
See attachment included in this email for instructions and additional information.
Free ArtStation
ArtStation keeps it simple with a coupon code. Use the coupon code ACUPRO2YEARS and redeem the annual subscription here: https://www.artstation.com/subscribe/pro. The code can be used up to 300 times. The subscription lasts for 2 years and is valued at $119/year. You will need to put in a method of renewal payment for when the subscription expires. DO NOT share the code. Services like Honey (a plugin to web browsers) will attempt to share the code if you do not deactivate it or explicitly tell it to not share the code.
Snackin’ in the Lounge
We’re currently out of snacks in the student lounge. We hope to be replenishing the supply in the near future.
Printing Room
Please be sure that you are using the large format printer only for A+D projects and only if your print job can not be done on another printer in the building. A new printer has been added to the print room for all of your more traditional printing needs. The smaller printer in room 207 that keeps jamming has also been replaced. With the addition of these 2 printers, you should have better options for printing. Please send me an email or shoot me a text anytime you are having trouble with a printer so that we can keep everything in working order for you.
Blog & Student Handbook
…an answer to all of your A+D questions – a very important resource for all art majors. Click this link to go directly to the blog: acuartanddesign.com. Be sure to check out the Student Handbook under the Resources section of the blog. The link to the blog is also included in my signature in all emails that I send out. I will go over this blog in detail with all first year A+D students during our one-on-one appointments in September. (You’ll hear more about the one-on-one’s in a few weeks.)
Last but not Least…
We are here to support you in school and life. If you need anything at all, please, please, please talk to me or another A+D faculty member. We want you to be successful not only in your course work but in life as well. My office hours are typically 8am – 3:30pm – feel free to stop by anytime. If there’s anything we can help you with, please let us know!! Seriously!!
Please don’t hesitate to reach out – I can be reached at kara.taylor@acu.edu or 325-674-2085 (or 325-514-0635 for any time I’m not in the office).
