after looking over the latest project brief, I was reminded of all the unique stores that I have been in full of knick knacks and fun. Actually what sparked this particular store was a link on the project brief to the superhero store. It reminded me of an awesome store in Chicago I visited a little while back called The Boring Store- which was anything but. I started looking through The Boring Store’s website and discovered they were under the same chain as the Superhero one. 826 has quite a few stores spread out throughout the US, each with a different original theme. I guess I jumped on the bandwagon a few years ago in enjoying everything about pirates. That is why this particular store stood out to me. They have pretty awesome gifts and merchandise that is along the same theme line as our current project. And, 826 has an even cooler story behind it- check out the store site and blog for more info.

Artifacts from the Future

WIRED Magazine has featured a final page photo called “FOUND: Artifacts from the Future,” for some time now, and they’re all fairly interesting (and funny). Our newest project reminded me of these photos, as they are essentially packaging for imaginary products that don’t exist yet.

I think my favorite part of these is how cheesy everything is, but because of that they look and feel like real products.

Check them out here:

I don’t know about you guys but I personally love to look at designs from other countries and see how they compare to america and what we’re doing. At this website you can search different countries and it’ll bring up design from those places. It’s just interesting to check out!

Heres an interesting take on ketchup and condiments from the Netherlands!

Flow Design

Last summer my mom’s best friend, realizing I’m a graphic design major, introduced me to her friend Dan Matauch. Dan’s office for his company Flow Designs is located right next door to my mom’s best friend’s coffee shop and she told me that Dan is always coming over asking for her opinion on his designs. Here is the link for Dan’s website which shows his portfolio and work–>http://flow-design.com. I got to take a tour of his offices and see a lot of packages that he and his team designed as well as some of the stuff that was in process. They don’t only do designs but also packages and creating new brands, identities, and products as well. It was very cool to see how many different brands, companies, and products that they designed for— very well known products. Their office in Northville, Michigan is one of two, their other branch is in California. For me its exciting to know that a small company and group of people can produce such awesome varying works and especially so close to home for me!

Here is one of their packages that I got to see in person when they were working on it!

Looking for some packaging design inspiration, I ran across this website:

There is a lot of great inspiration on here with colorful, as well as elegant packaging. This is probably just the most interesting thing I found: Whale Milk.
