Even though this is my 8th post, I thought this was interesting to share.

Remember Myspace Tom? You know, the first friend you had that was number one on your top eight whenever you created your account?

Yeah, well update on his life, sold Myspace to some other dude and for a quite heavy load of money and uses his earning to travel the world taking absolutely breath taking photographs.

Right on, Myspace Tom, right on.

David Leeson

This last post of mine is over ACU alumni himself, David Leeson. It is quite obvious that I obsesses over editorial sports photographers, but the amount of respect I have for Leeson’s work and knowing his family when I was younger makes his photographs extremely impactful. I fear that I might find myself getting into photojournalism in the future to the point where I am on a plane to the other side of the world shooting events during warfare. But it is crucial that there are people like David Leeson out there taking those pictures to send back to America to educate us on what is happening on the other side of the world so we are not ignorant of world issues. Looking through his work, it is hard for me to pull his greatest work, because his greatest work can also be painful to look at to see malnourished children, to see soliders fighting, or see the homeless suffering on the side of the road. But overall his work has helped bring America back to reality, and no I am not talking about the reality that the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” clog our brains to be. I’m talking about the reality that not every country is as stable as America today. Yes, we are not perfect, but goodness gracious we are truly blessed that it is stable enough to where we are not in fear every time we leave our front door step. I recommend taking a deeper look into David Leeson’s work, your perspective on what is happening around the world will be changed.

Jason Meyers

SORRY this is the hundredth editorial sports photographer that I am talking about. I just want to be one so bad okay?!

In all seriousness Jason Meyers is yet again another editorial sports photographer that exemplifies the level of photography I aspire to reach to. Though what I am focusing on in his work is the natural state he captures the athletes in on the field. One of the reasons why I love sports photography so much is that the pictures are not candid; the athletes are unaware of when I am taking pictures of them so they are in their most natural state on the field/court. Jason Meyers captures that concept beautifully, especially in the picture I pulled of the Miami Dolphin football player. Even with my own work, my most successful shots came from athletes were in their own zone unaware of my presence on the sidelines.

Also, God bless Jason Meyers for getting this picture of Tim Tebow golfing. #hottie

Laura Barisonzi

I have been researching a lot lately about women sports photographers because frankly I have yet to meet one, let alone even see one on the sidelines of any sporting events. While the industry for sports photographers is predominately male, there are women out there who are making a name for themselves in this industry. I came across Laura Barisonzi’s name from literally typing into the Google search engine “women sports photographers” and she was on the top. From her work it is evident why her name was one of the first ones to pop up because the photographs she produces for sports photography is absolutely amazing. It was hard to resist to upload a plethora of her photos onto this post, but I chose these three because even though they seem so simple, I am itching to know the production behind the photo that went into creating this high quality, amazing, shot. Screen Shot 2014-11-30 at 5.10.35 pm Screen Shot 2014-11-30 at 5.11.32 pm Screen Shot 2014-11-30 at 5.11.45 pm

Although Jason Lee is normally a wedding photographer, he took a break with these adorable, hilarious images of his daughters. I love the playful colors and compositions used, and the amount of fun these shoots looked like.creative-children-photography-jason-lee-3 jason-lee-taz-35339471-xyo-700x468 creative-children-photography-jason-lee-10

Suran Manvelyan is a professional photographer who has been taking photographs since he was 16 years old. He photographs a wide range of subjects from portraits and creative compositions to landscape and more. I like that he has such a wide range of work. He does not just photograph one subject area, and he has a large collection of strong and amazing photographs. I think it is good to have a wide range of experience when it comes to photography, and Manvelyan is a good example. Here is his portfolio on Behance.

These are some of the photos I really liked from his portfolio:

Bernard Pras

Bernard Pras is a french artist who uses found objects to create portraits of people and well-known artwork and photographs. He purchases the items at flea markets that match the shade of the picture he is trying to create, then arranges them to form the picture and photographs the result. Similar to the OK Go music video we saw in class, you have to be at an exact angle to see the image. It takes a long time to create the images using only recycled objects, especially at a large scale. What Pras does seems like interesting and time consuming work! Here is a super cool video about him and one of the pieces he’s working on!

Heather Dewey-Hagborg: Using DNA to Render 3D Biological Portraiture

1 Commentby   |  11.22.14  |  Student Posts

Heather Dewey-Hagborg uses the samples of DNA left behind by random people she encounters. This includes chewed gum, hair, and other objects that leave behind a DNA trail. She then puts this information in a computer program that decodes the genetic traits such as hair color, eye color, ethnicity, etc. She then uses this information to render 3D portraits of the people who’s DNA she decoded and puts the results in art shows. As a scientist and an artist, this is an astonishing feat. Here is here website: http://deweyhagborg.com/

Nan Goldin was born In Washington, D.C, on September 12, 1953

Nan Goldin claimed her fame, “earlier by using her lens on her drug-using and transvestite friends to create shocking images that saw personal reportage re-born.” (www.artnet.com)

A web cite article states, ” As a teenager in Boston in the 1960s, then in New York starting in the 1970s, Nan Goldin has taken intensely personal, spontaneous, sexual, and transgressive photographs of her family, friends, and lovers. In 1979 she presented her first slideshow in a New York nightclub, and her richly colored, snapshot like photographs were soon heralded as a groundbreaking contribution to fine art photography. (http://www.matthewmarks.com/new-york/artists/nan-goldin/)
