Lightsaber Magic with After Effects CC

In preparation for the next chapter in the Star Wars saga, we’re thinking about ways to combine the power of Adobe Creative Cloud with some Jedi mojo to awaken your creative force.
On Dead Day our #EpisodeXmas event will bring lightsabers into the library for the first time. The lightsaber is the perfect tool for an aspiring Adobe Master, “not as clumsy as a blaster… an elegant weapon for a more civilized age.”

So if you plan on dropping by the Learning Studio to film an epic lightsaber showdown with your roommate, don’t stop there. This Lynda tutorial will teach you how to make your lightsaber glow in After Effects–an essential ingredient for turning a $5 kid’s toy into a magical futuristic weapon.

In preparation for the next chapter in the Star Wars saga, we’re thinking about ways to combine the power of Adobe Creative Cloud with some Jedi mojo to awaken your creative force.

Young Padawan, in order to become an Adobe master, it’s not enough simply to download Photoshop (available for free HERE). You might begin over the break by creating your own Star Wars hologram.

Not sure where to start, “help us Lynda.com, you’re our only hope”. Here’s a quick tutorial.

Episode Xmas kicks off on Dead Day

StarWars-Logo-Animated4The wait is almost over. The next chapter in the Star Wars saga opens December 18, and the Learning Studio wants to put you in the movie!

But like Luke Skywalker on the uncertain surface of Dagobah, the title of Jedi master doesn’t come without a test.

Between now and the end of Finals Week, we’ll give a few mega fans tickets to Star Wars: The Force Awakens along with enough tshirts, USB drives, and imperial swag to fill the belly of a Tauntaun.

Join us on Dead Day for your chance to win:

Star Wars Final Exam – We’ve put together a trivia test to separate the geeks from the nerds. Make sure to stop by the main desk in the LS to pick up a scantron and a Yoda pencil. (2-3 minutes)

Jedi Auditions – We’ll also be hosting auditions in the green screen studio where you can challenge a friend or professor to a lightsaber duel. We’ll have prizes for the best delivery of a favorite line or mad Jedi skills. (3-5 minutes)

Adobe MAX 2015

Last week, a team of 6 ACU faculty and staff rubbed shoulders with pro filmmakers, authors, photographers and engineers at Adobe’s annual creative conference, Adobe MAX.

Watch the MAX Kick-off video and prepare to be blown away.

The event is not only an inspiring collection of creative work from filmmakers, special effects artists and graphic designers, but this year Adobe included sessions focused on Education, including a full-day executive briefing with ACU joining representatives from Clemson, UC Berkeley, University of the Arts, and our hosts at USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism.

Creative Cloud is already the industry standard for creative work in media, web and design. Now that Adobe CC is available to all students, faculty and staff, we look forward to seeing how it can impact your work as well.

Check out the keynotes and select sessions from MAX 2015 and kick off your creative journey.
