Tim Flach is an animal photographer and his portfolio is INCREDIBLE. I just took one image from his impressive site, so everyone needs to check him out. Absolutely stunning.

So Karsh is an excellent photographer.  Check out some of his portraits and early images when you get a chance (click here)!  He has photographs some awesome people (Hemmingway being one… woah). His black and white portraits are breathtaking.  I really like the way he uses a soft light in his images!

I Stumble”d”Upon Andre De Freitas artwork. My favortie photographs are her double exposure shots. This is her bio and some of my favorite shots.

Hello, my name is Andre De Freitas and I’m a photographer and illustrator. I studied in Full Sail University and got a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Animation.

But oddly enough, the concept of stillness captured my imagination, and I focused more on illustration. Instead of just drawing,I tried to imagine myself taking photos

of my subjects. That way the illusion of stillness would be a little more believable, almost like a photograph. After that, my insertion into the world of photography was

almost based on instinct.

What kind of photography (portraits, landscapes, architectural, etc.) is your favorite?
With my indecisive nature I would have to say I love all photography and taking a variety of different photographs.

what do you get?

When someone looks at one of your images, what do you hope they get from it?
I hope they can see beauty and the message I am trying to give through my artwork. At the very least I hope they can at least see how hard I have worked for or on the image to get it just right.

what makes a “good” picture

Everything. The composition. The lighting. The contrast. The colors. The subject. Is it beautiful? Would you hang that up in your home? Would you see that in a museum or on display? What story does it tell? Is the photographer getting his or her message out?
I’m not always a fan of pictures you would see being taken by amateurs, or your everyday kinda person with a point and shoot posting things on facebook. It has to be more than that.

Photography Training/Classes

Before this advanced photography class I had taken a photography class with the study abroad group a few summers ago. Other than that everything I have learned has been from trial and error. I think its been helpful training myself in photography and cameras but it is also nice to have someone who can answer your questions with the correct and honest answer.

advice

My advice to starting photographers is to get familiar with the camera and what you enjoy photographing. Take as many pictures as you can, however be in mind of quality over quantity. Yes, get out there and go crazy by taking a lot of pictures but make sure its something that you would want to hang on your wall. If you can’t see it hanging on your wall then make some changes and work with the composition and lighting. When you start getting used to the camera and how you work with it then start challenging yourself and using new lenses and new angles and new subjects. Switch it up and have fun with it!

where do I see my photography in 5-10 years?

Down the road in 5 to 10 years I would like to see that my photography has advanced and my skills have improved because I know there is always room for improvement. I would like to hopefully be successful enough to have my own photography business that will stand out from all the rest. I see people who enjoy photography try and start up “at-home” business and struggle to keep it going and I don’t want that. I would also like to have experience with working for a magazine shooting all their images or any kind of company for an online website. Just as long as I am doing what I love to do.
