LOOKHERE

Photographer Miyoko Ihara started this photo project 13 years ago, when her grandma Misao adopted an abandoned kitten, now named Fukumaru.

The Black and white photos are breathtaking.

I love the street photography quality to all of these photos. The black and white has a nice, crisp contrast that is very appealing. In the study abroad course, we talked about how a lot of “pure” street photography is unedited. This leads me to the question of “are these photos edited and if so, how much?”

I love that the grandmother’s cat makes an appearance in the majority of her photography. I like that there is a common theme to all of her photographs, it kind of tells a story of its own. Her work tells her grandmothers story, bringing a very sentimental quality to her work.

I love the repeating element of the cat! It is a really fun motif! It makes it feel like documentary style. I feel like I am just going through the life with the grandmother and the cat. I love how they feel candid and fun! I love seeing the little moments of life!
