Storyteller Michael Wolf

While looking for some inspiration for our storytelling project, I stumbled across photographer Michael Wolf. I’d definitely encourage looking at some of his images and through the different photography series he has online. The majority of his images focus on one particular object in large cities; one of my favorite of his series is his Paris rooftop documentation (a few images shown below).

Okay-these are seriously beautiful! My favorite pictures are the ones he took of the outside of buildings, revealing peoples rooms. The lighting seems to illuminate each room. Beautiful pictures capturing people’s little world’s inside of their rooms. So neat!

What I like about Michael Wolf’s work is that through capturing these objects, the frozen moments in time seem to tell a story. I always find it interesting that something so simple could be so captivating. One of my favorite albums on his site was ‘back door’ because some of the random objects have a sense of being out of place. Others are positioned as if they have humanistic qualities and evoke a sense of longing. I find it quite impressive for objects so ordinary to evoke such an intense feeling.

I really like how these photos draw my eyes to every corner of the picture making me want to see what else was around these buildings. I really like the texture and lines that his work displays.

It kind of reminds me of the scene in Mary Poppins when the chimney sweeps are dancing and singing on the roof. Haha! But back on subject… my favorites are the photos taken in Hong Kong.
