We are delighted to announce that Jeremy Elliott, Associate Professor of English in the Department of Language and Literature has received a very competitive Humanities Innovation Course Development Grant from the Modern Language Association in order to further develop and refine in his popular and experiential Environmental Literature Course.
Dr. Elliott piloted this course in May 2019 with great success and is offering it again in May 2020. Students spend 10 days in an outdoor travel, tent camping, learning experience. Led by Dr. Elliott and a graduate student assistant, students read and discuss poetry by Texas writers, visit related South Texas sites, including several days in Big Bend National Park, and write original poetry in their handmade leather journals.
